In Midland, Michigan an adopted child attacked and killed Faith Baden’s son, Justin Baden, age 17, early in August, 2009. Justin and his younger siblings were removed from Faith Baden’s home by CPS and eventually adopted out to Jessica Pribbernow, a Michigan child-collector.

The newspaper reported that Pribbernow had custody of five boys adopted from foster care. The accused, known as Steven Jeffrey Pribbernow Jr., 15, is not the biological brother of the boys he is said to have attacked.

Two others boys, both sons of Faith Baden, were injured severely in the knife attack.

Faith, my heartfelt sympathy to you on the loss of your son, and prayers for the healing of his younger brothers. We here at FightCPS do understand that your children should not have been separated from their loving parents.

Obviously the child collecting adopters were not capable of keeping the children safe. This is one more sign that the foster-adoption system in this country doesn’t work. I wonder if these children, in particular the one said to be the attacker, were on medications as “special needs” children. Many pharmaceutical medications given to foster and adoptive children are believed to have produced suicidal or homicidal tendencies. One of the emails posted stated that Jessica and her husband were unemployed and living off the adoption subsidy payments received for adopting the boys – a clear indicator that these were probably medicated children.

A fine way our country pretends to keep children safe.

A foster parent in Detroit, Michigan has been arrested for allegedly molesting two young girls, ages 10 and 12. Robert Carl Davids, 55, may face life in prison for raping the two children who were in his home as foster children.

Their mother lost custody of her five children in 2006 due to a drug raid, but she’s been working on her reunification plan and hopes to get her children back on December 4.

In the meantime she’s been telling Michigan DHS caseworkers that her children were in danger. According to a Detroit News article, she said, “I was making complaints in February 2007 almost every day about the home . . . and I felt no one was taking me seriously.” She thought her daughters were being ‘beaten and sexually assaulted’.

A Dearborn, Michigan mother, Elena Andron, 32, asked for help from social services when she lost her job. She asked that the state help take care of her quadriplegic nine-year-old son, Johnny Dragomir. Unfortunately Johnny starved to death in the Monroe Foster Home in Detroit; owner Mildred Monroe, a registered nurse and dietician, apparently didn’t feed him enough and he died of malnutrition.

Elena Andron has filed suit against the the foster care home and others, asking $30 million in damages.

Andron stated in her lawsuit that when she became concerned about her son’s health she was denied access to him. When he entered foster care he weighed 80 pounds, and when he died, he weighed only 48 pounds. His school teacher didn’t notice any “red flags” and the foster home still has an active license.

Allison Newman’s mother wanted to recover from an addiction to crack cocaine, so she asked an acquaintance to watch her six month old baby temporarily. When Michigan social workers got into the act, the baby ended up in the home of Carol Poole, 42, a barren woman living in an expensive upscale home, who wanted children. She has now been convicted of murdering Allison when she was only two.

Allison’s grandfather, Kenneth Newman said:

• “She cracked that baby’s skull open, dressed her and put her to bed to die.”
• “People (child welfare workers) turned their heads because these people lived out in Canton and had a few dollars in the bank.”
• “There was evidence that Allison started being abused seven or eight weeks before her death. When Ann (the girl’s mother) went into rehab, the date to sever parental rights got postponed and Carol Poole realized she wasn’t going to get to adopt Allison. We think that’s when everything went bad.”

Carol Poole has now been convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 to 30 years in prison. She also got 10 to 15 years for child abuse.

Quoting from Guthrie’s article:

“During her trial, two workers at the Childtime Learning Center day care in Plymouth said they noticed scratches and bruises on Allison long before her death. They reported the findings to their supervisor, who was charged but not convicted of failing to comply with state law by reporting the injuries.”

During 2005 and 2006 three children died in Michigan foster and adoptive homes: Allison Newman, Issac Lethbridge, and Ricky Holland.

A New York based advocacy group called Children’s Rights is suing the state of Michigan in federal court on behalf of 19,000 foster children who may be endangered by maltreatment in the foster care system.

The Michigan Department of Human Services refused to provide documentation on sixty-seven foster children who died in state care there since 2004. At least three of those children were killed in state licensed foster homes. Circumstances regarding the other deaths are unclear as the state refuses to release records.

At a hearing on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 U.S. District Judge Nancy G. Edmunds ruled that an expert must be hired to assess the Michigan foster care system’s adequacy. The expert, Christopher Baird of the Children’s Research Center, will study 460 random Michigan foster care files

Judge Edmunds also ordered the state to release certain foster care documents by August 31, 2007.
