Jessie, hang tough - I know how unnerving it is to have CPS workers investigating you. Have they said yet whether they’ve closed the case? How long has it been since they were in your house? You know you don’t have to let them in (the Fourth Amendment guarantees your right to privacy in your home.) They’ve seen it enough already. I hope you’ll be able to relocate, but wherever you go in the USA, CPS is there. Truth be told, there are a lot of complaints about CPS in Oregon. I hope if you move you can get another good job. Times are hard right now, because of the recession.

Hello, I am a young struggling mother… trying to make lemonade out of the sourest lemons. I have 3 children, yes… I said 3. Ages 7,4, and 3. I am so concerned CPS will come to take my children away. I really cannot think of a single thing I could have done to deserve this, as my children are all well fed, clean and have all of the clothes they need.

At the beginning of this month, my 4 year old son was shoved off of the monkey bars at Salem’s Riverfront Park. He broke his arm in 5 places, and we RUSHED him to the ER. Next thing I know there are social workers in MY SONS ER ROOM! BEFORE he had even recieved any tylonol or anything for the pain, and he was then pressured to discuss the incident.

He was sitting there with a SHATTERED elbow at 4 years old, and she wouldn’t let it go for awhile. So he said, plain as day “my friend pushed me off the monkey bars”… it wasn’t enough for this woman. She then started prodding at me and my fiancee.
We even pulled out the camera, which we had JUST used to take pictures at the park, in which my son was wearing the SAME clothing… he even pointed to the boy that shoved him without provocation.

Next thing I know, my life is under a microscope. I honestly believe it was ONLY because of my age, and that I was abused in a past relationship, which I GOT OUT OF ON MY OWN.

In addition to having all of their basic needs met, my children have so much love in their lives. My 7 year old has bi-polar disorder and ADHD, both of which he recently started medication for, and my middle son (4) has epilepsy, my Daughter (3) has athsma and a heart murmur. I have moved into a house with hardwood floors to ensure I can keep the dust mites at bay (as my daughter is allergic) and have based everything in my life around helping my children succeed in everything they do.

I have a good job, and carry private insurance for my children. I pay my taxes and am a productive member of society. At one point I even worked 2 full time jobs to avoid public assistance and second-rate medical care. I am baffled at this case, and the need to pull at my family. They have been in my home several times… and I am terrified by their silence. Please dear lord, Do NOT let them return.

I love my children so much, they are my life, my light, the joy in every burst of laughter… to take them is to take my soul. This will be the 3rd case they have found to be completely unfounded against me. Same person making the other claims until the hospital I believe. We were thinking about just moving to another state after they finish the investigation and the case is closed. I do not feel that as a young mother with children that have disabilities, that my family will survive oregon CPS.I need advice, and support.

HELP!! My two daughters ran away because they did not want to face the consequences for their lies about how mean we are as parents. They told all the powers that be my husband tried to touch them.
Madras, Oregon DHS and one specific investigating police detective helped them elaborate their lies until my innocent husband ended up with 11 charges ( 5 felony, 6 misd.). DHS did no investigation of anyone who knew me or my husband, nor would they listen to any of our explanations to counter the teenagers’ stories. They never reviewed the charges with us as the law says they are suppose to.( I had recorded this meeting without telling anyone. Didn’t think I had too because Oregon is a one party state. Tell them anyway! DHS staff is so stupid they tell lies even with the recorder going. I know , I have dozens and dozens of such recordings- all legal!) It is an issue to appeal if they didn’t, but with a plea, appeals are not allowed.
I need to find a way to get them in court to show they completely lacked a proper investigation. We had a lawyer who refused to investigate any of the lies we uncovered against the cops and judges who continually ruled against us The result is that he was pressured to take a plea of minimum 6 1/2 years prison time.
One piece we wanted checked was the police detective’s recording of the search of our house. It is 2 min. LONGER than the stated time on the recording and we have an analysis of at least 6 places where it has been cut and possibly edited. Lawyer wouldn’t explore it further.
Same Det. illegally took a digital recorder from my purse, down loaded and listened to it on his computer, distributed it as discovery. Then I got arrested 5 months later, for making this recording (the DHS meeting). I filed an ethics charge against the DA for false arrest. He arrested me for making this recording of a private meeting, BUT the complaint against him was dismissed because he now says it was a semi-private meeting. The info was shared with police and the DA for the investigation so it really was not really a private meeting. How can he have it both ways but I can’t? I challenged the decision and appealed the decision. Still waiting for an answer. All charges were dismissed against me for the recording after the judge ruled the cop exceeded the scope of the search warrant because he didn’t get a warrant to listen to the recording. I have never been in any trouble with the law and I have been in court more times than anyone person should.
I am a teacher and because of the charges against my husband, I may lose my teaching license for not reporting something that didn’t happen and we have no way to prove it. They say I had to have known about it.
I need to find someone in Oregon who can help me expose this Madras, Oregon crooked police department, file some kind of lawsuit against DHS, and do something against the lawyer to get some of our $38,000 back. We want to get this in the newspaper but are not sure how to do it and not make it sound like a couple of whiners. We want justice for ourselves and to make sure our kids know the consequences of their lies. We want the deceiving liers in DHS and the MPD to be held accountable for what they did to us and hopefully stop others in this community from having to go through this nightmare.

I am a mother whose three youngest children have just been granted by the local judge to have mine and my husband’s Parental Rights TERMINATED on. This judge allowed DHS to present evidence that could have been disputed my my oldest child into the court record, but refused to allow me to address the court on that court record. The local courts have FAILED to PRESERVE the record which the higher courts depend on in a ‘de novo’ review of the case. My daughter was subpoenaed to testify and DHS refused to transport her (knowing she would blow their evidence and testimony to shreds) and told us we had to figure out how to get her there. They have custody of her. We would have been jailed for kidnapping if we had tried to transport her. Our attorneys also refused to bring her in to testify against our wishes. The Judge ruled to terminate because of a haircut that I have given my daughter to CORRECT the butchering she had done to herself. She wanted short hair and never had a problem with the haircut, the adults did. No one asked us about what had happened and decided my daughter needed to go back into care. They even lied to her to get her into the vehicle from her school, and THEN notified us they had removed her again. The Judge called the haircut cruel, and abusive, and COMPARED it to CHILD PORNOGRAPHY. My children had NEVER suffered abuse until they entered foster care. My oldest son was a recipient of some incompetent foster parents. All they got was their license removed, NOTHING else was done to them. If it had been us, we would have been jailed immediately. My son never got any justice. There are some foster parents who are decent. The problem is, they are few and far between. And mixed in with a corrupt DHS, it tends to give those who truly care about the children a bad name. We as a general public need to protest DHS. We need to stop talking and come to action. The health, safety, and sanity of our children and the sanctity of the family depends on it.

No—CPS/DHS doesn’t need more people to come support their corrupt system— a system that shuffles innocent kids through a revolving door of therapists, mediators, DHS staffers, children’s lawyers, and court rooms. Too many immature, emotionally imbalanced, and alcohol or drug addicted people work their way into the foster care system, when they have no business being foster parents. They feed off the system, and CPS/DHS gladly holds the door open to these supposed “do-gooders”, who often can’t hold down a job and need a source of income.

Children’s services needs to be completely overhauled, from top to bottom. Poor folks know this is the place to “get a kid”, and have the state help the foster parent financially should it go to adoption; resulting in their ability to receive all the benefits “due” a child. Heck, the nanny state will even help pay for child care, food stamps, and schooling for the “struggling” foster parents—FOLLOW the money people. All the court cases, endless wranglings with DHS/therapists/psychologists, and paperwork has to be paid by someone—-the burden falls on the taxpayers!!! When foster parents are in the system for themselves, and NOT for the poor child who is quite often completely cut off from the biological relatives—THEY should pay their way and not expect we, the taxpayers, to fund their need for a child. So often the single foster parent has an insatiable need for a child, and will do anything to get a child (even taking someone else’s child with DHS’s help) even though their is no husband and potential father in sight! More on this in Ann Coulter’s new book, “Guilty”–a must read for those uninformed.
Bottom line— clean up DHS/CPS, return children to their bio relatives if the parents haven’t gotten their lives together, and quit throwing more money at DHS in their unending plea for “more funding please”.
The judges, caseworkers, state-appointed lawyers, and child psychologists/therapists keep patting each other on the back as they supposedly seek to act in the “best interests of the child”—-how incredibly shameful they act—but happy are they that their paychecks and fees keep coming in! All at the expense of the children they are supposed to serve, and on the backs of everyday taxpayers.

Yes I second that, trying a year with no child protective services. I also believe that the abuse will decrease. I also believe the police can handle true abuse cases and the person shall have their day in criminal court with due process. Unlike the many families that are brought into juvenile court with no due process and abused by the system that is supposed to protect the children, who are often the target of abuse, by the ones that say were only doing whats in the best interest of the child.

I read all these different perspectives about bad and good foster parents and kids being abused and neglected. I say try a year with no child protective services ripping families apart and see how the death and permanent damages decrease. I know that some kids need help. For gods sake call the police not CPS if a child is being abused.
If a child is doing without ! Pitch in and help. Cases of what each individual percieves as neglect are on different planes. Even the worst cases of neglect can change with a little help to get a family over whatever hump in life they are facing. Foster care should be reserved as a last resort for the children that have parents carted off to jail for real abuse. Even then grandma and Grandpa should be called first. Aunts uncles and friends should also have the kids placed with them before any foster parent is considered. From the second these kids are considered in danger.
Where the hell have the good people with common sence gone. Oh yeah to the bank that is where.

I feel terrible for the children who are abused, neglected, and abandoned. And I am sorry for the pain anyone suffers. But as a parent myself and now raising my daughter (previous foster child) I would have to defend CPS and other foster parents. CPS have the hardest job out there and they do a good job. The system is not perfect, but nothing is. As for foster parents, these are people who open their homes and heart to innocent children. Not all foster parents are bad, and not all biological parents are good. My advice to you who feel the need to criticize the people who are out there trying to make a difference; you need to realize that you would do more good joining up with CPS to help them fill the gap of the bad foster homes by becoming a good foster home. Standing around complaining that CPS and SOME foster parents do not do a good job is ignorant. Unless your willing to open your heart and home to children, what right do you have to tell the people who are trying that they are doing a bad job? Take personal responsability and make a difference, not another problem.
