i am a victim of cps they took our two children away at birth our son christian was born in dec 2006 and our daughter was born in june 2008. they took them at birth i never had a chance to bring either child home to be with me and my husband. they sent us to do counceling and evaluations did some home visits supervised and never alone with our kids. they would bring our son to see us when he was a baby and he would scream when i held him. and when his sister was born he would scream when the foster mom left the room. she would always have to be in room cause of it i think they did something prior to the visit to him to make him scared of us. we never got our kids back. we didnt sign adoption papers and they called it involuntarly to sign

Hi there, Alaska OCS is where I am dealing with they have my children as well. I have a court appointed, but okay attorney even if he's mostly not involved. (I do my own legal research and I give the suggestions as to what I might do.,..he's paid by the state to keep me company not do research and his paralegal, though eager is not very helpful. I haven't seen the inside of a courtroom..and what sucks is I called them for help My husband and I called them so that he could get help..and they took his kids..our kids away for it. I asked for resources..they gave me foster care and supervised visits. I asked for treatment options and they charged me with neglect and said I was "minimizing" the problems. (The only problem is my husband has PTSD/Manic Depression and when he is in a bad cycle he cannot control relapses to drinking. Which is why I mostly look after them and he has very little "unsupervised" time. (Mind you this is the guy that chaperones class trips..bandages the knees because mama passes out at the sight of blood, braves the dogs fangs at nail trim time..etc. Cooks, cleans and even helps with homework..has a mental illness and has a hard time sleeping..in chronic pain..and since he has a hard time sometimes he can't see his kids...at all without their say so now.

Anne, so glad to hear that you had a positive outcome to your case and that your children are home safe again. There's nothing wrong with a wake-up call - and many parents DO need them.

What I object to is when families are torn apart forever with little justification. Also, I object to taking children without giving parents a warning that things must change or else. If they gave parents an opportunity to change /before/ detaining the children I'd probably not be an advocate / activist at all.

There are very few situations where children are truly abused to the extent that they should immediately be removed from their homes. Most CPS cases are based on less serious situations such as neglect to keep a house totally clean at all times (something really hard to do when there are young children in the home.)

I was involved in a CPS case in WY. My kids were taken away because of conditions in the house caused from all of the stress I was under from dealing with my husband at the time. They were placed with an AWESOME foster family. The foster family went out of there way to take my kids to places that they knew we frequented so that we would be able to see them more often than DCFS wanted. My husband and I were placed on the registry for neglect and abuse. We followed the case plan to the letter. In fact we followed it so well that DCFS knocked some stuff off that they origionally wanted us to complete because they felt that it was not needed anymore. The goal was always reunification for us. My kids were taken and returned within 7 months. It was one of the fastest cases that they had. Even the foster family was saying that we should get our kids back.

I just wanted to say that there are some good outcomes and that not all situations end badly.
Since I have gotten my kids back I have gotten rid of the husband and most of my stress went with him. I am in the process of finding parenting classes to start and a MOPS group to join. I am going to be writing a letter to get my name off the registry and I want to be able to get off it because you only get to petition once and after that the decision is final. And if I am going to pursue my CNA dream than I need to get off.
In my case having DCFS step in was a good thing for me because it was a wake up call for me.

CB Smith - I recommend that you quit calling CPS. That course of action can backfire badly. Many grandparents think the baby will be better off with them or in foster care but in reality the child can get adopted out to strangers within 18 months and then you'll never see it again. Just because you're willing to raise your granddaughter doesn't mean CPS agents will give her to you. The state will make more money by keeping her in a foster home then adopting her out.

Here in Louisiana OCS just got a name change to DFCS. My wife and adore our 18 month old grandaughter. The mother is on dope bad, we called DFCS for the third time (to turn the mother in). Due to false accuastions made by the mother we can not see our grandbaby for 6 months. Does anybody have any recommendations?

in maine it's called dhhs. (dipshits horibly handling situations.) my name for them. my brother moved home from nc. and found out that his ex-wifes husband had molested her oldest daughter (no relation) and was convicted of it. and dhhs left his 11 year old daughter in the house after the conviction without even informing him of the situation. so he fought for custody and won well then his daughter got into trouble and he had to take her phone away and ground her(first time since he had her) she rebelled and made a false accusation that even the cops did not warrant as worth investigating yet dhhs has since convicted him in there minds and totally ransact his life and everyone who believes his inocense. and delayed any trial or hearing it's been one and half years and he hasn't even got in front of a judge to try his case. the dhhs in maine is too powerful they answer to no one and if they do answer to someone that person is a former employee of dhhs can anyone say conflict of interest much!!!!!!!!!! this state's dhhs is by far the most corrupt in america the land of the .........free?...

I am currently fighting to get custody of my two little girls. I spent 10.5 months in jail while the state attorney general investigated every nook and cranny in my life. After spending more than $100,000.00 on my defense all charges against me were dropped. My family went through hell while I was incarcerated. My 3 and 5 year old suffered immensely without money or proper care. I would like to network with as many people as posssible so that we can become a strong political force. I have nothing but time since my children are not with me.

By the way my e-mail is josepi_joe[@]yahoo.com
